จังหวัดเพชรบุรี เป็นหนึ่งในจังหวัดภาคตะวันตกของประเทศไทย มีภูมิลักษณะที่ตั้งสูงติดเทือกเขาและที่ราบชายฝั่งทะเล มีชื่อเสียงโดดเด่นในด้านการผลิตน้ำตาล เนื่องจากมีต้นตาลมากอยู่ในจังหวัดเพชรบุรี และยังเป็นเมืองเก่าแก่ ที่มีความรุ่งเรืองมาตั้งแต่ครั้งสมัยโบราณ มีความสำคัญในการเป็นเมืองหน้าด่านของไทยในกลุ่มหัวเมือง และมีชื่อเรียกถูกพบปรากฏในหนังสือของชาวตะวันตก เช่นชาววิลันดา เรียกว่า “พิพรีย์” ชาวฝรั่งเศสเรียกว่า “พิพพีล์” และ “ฟิฟรี” จึงสันนิษฐานว่าชื่อ “เมืองพริบพรี” คงเป็นชื่อเดิมของเมืองเพชรบุรี ส่วนชื่อ “เพชรบุรี” นั่นมีปรากฏอยู่เป็นหลักฐานมาตั้งแต่สมัยพระเจ้าชัยวรมันที่ 7 มีที่มาของชื่อจังหวัดถูกแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ทางคือ ส่วนแรกเป็นการเรียกชื่อตามแม่น้ำเพชรบุรี ส่วนอีกชื่อเป็นการเรียกตามตำนานที่เล่าสืบต่อกันมาในสมัยโบราณว่า เคยมีปรากฎว่ามีแสงระยิบระยับเกิดขึ้นในเวลากลางคืนที่เขาแด่น จนทำให้คนเข้าใจกันว่ามีเพชรพลอยอบู่บนเขาแด่น จนถูกขนานนามว่า “เมืองเพชร”
เป็นอีกหนึ่งจังหวัดของประเทศไทย ที่มีสถานที่แหล่งท่องเที่ยวน่าสนใจอยู่มากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวทางธรรมชาติ อุทยานแห่งชาติแก่งกระจาน โครงการแหลมผักเบี้ยโครงการพระราชดำริของในหลวงที่พัฒนาฟื้นฟูป่าชายเลน หรือแหล่งท่องเที่ยวทางด้านประวัติศาสตร์ เช่น อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พระนครคีรี (เขาวัง) หรือแหล่งท่องเที่ยวทางทะเลที่ขึ้นชื่ออย่างหาดเจ้าสำราญ หาดชะอำ เป็นต้น
